Stuart Shils (born 1954) is a Philadelphia-based artist who studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art (PAFA). There he met Seymour Remenick who would have a profound influence on his early landscapes. They painted together outdoors, often in Manayunk, a frequent subject of both their paintings.

Shils teaches at PAFA and exhibits frequently in New York, Philadelphia, Israel and Ireland.

This painting was a donation to a fundraiser for the Zoological Society of Philadelphia in 1996, with a description appearing to be in Shils’ hand verso.
