Marianna Sloan (1875-1954) was the younger and somewhat eclipsed sister of John Sloan. She studied at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women under Robert Henri, had a studio in Germantown and painted many local subjects, including probably this painting, likely a mill on the Wissahickon. She exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Royal Academy in London.
“Mill in the Winter”, probably on the Wissahickon.
Oil on board, 20” x 24”, likely in its original frame, c.1910.
